My Favourite Runner Up
Supports: AMFX and JulyOrNever
Wrexham
Central Station
24/01/13
First gig of the year and I was very much looking forward
to getting back into my gigging routine. McDonald's then venue, what else? I
turned up at Central Station and got in the queue, it wasn't long before we
went in. I usually am among the first ones to be let in the venue and usually
the atmosphere for the first half hour or so is shocking however tonight was
different, there was a nice friendly buzz floating around, very nice to see
indeed.
The first support band, AMFX, went on stage and kicked off
the night, there wasn't many people heading towards the front but there were
quite a few, including myself, standing at the side. They put on a good set of
catchy pop punk tunes, even threw in a bit of crowd interaction and got a
reaction back which is sometimes difficult for the supports.
AMFX or 'mini
bowling for soup' as my friend and I labelled them made way for the next
supports, Julyornever. Also a set full of catchy pop punk tunes though I don't
remember as much about their set, I guess that tells you something, they just
weren't for me.
My Favourite Runner Up made their way on stage, the crowd
gathered around. Their set had a mix of older songs and new songs which were on
the album that this gig was launching. It is clear to see these guys love
playing live and they sound amazing! I can certainly see why they are getting
more and more attention. There was a few cover songs thrown into the set
including Busted's 'year 3000' and Bon Jovi's 'It's My Life', unexpected yes,
but they managed to pull it off.
All in all, a good gig to kick off my year.
