Verses
with
support from Take The Seven, The Hiding Place and Avalae.
The Compass, Chester
05th June 2014
It’d been years since I last saw
Verses, though I remember them being an amazing live band. They did not
disappoint in Chester. The venue was small, only around 30 people were there,
however Verses put on a first class show.
The evening opened up with local
band Avalae. The band played 4 or 5 catchy melodic rock songs before making way
for next support band, The Hiding place. These again played a few catchy tunes.
The singer joined everyone in the crowd to sing the last song, to try and get
the crowd going a bit. Both bands did a great job as opening acts.
Take The Seven were on stage
next, as direct support for Verses. It was coming to the end of the Feel It
Faster tour and Take The Seven had been there all the way. This band were very
good live and the members seemed to gel well. Towards the end of the set, Dan Molloy – Vocals, requested that the crowd split into
two, quickly saying that it was not a wall of death it was a wall of hugs. Fair
to say this band were perfect opening band for Verses.
The stage was all
set up for the main band of the evening, Verses. Their 12 song setlist started
with the pounding drum beat of debut album title track ‘Feel It Faster’, it was
the perfect way to begin their set. Everything was going grand until about 5
songs in, during ‘Same White Light’ (found on third EP ‘Come To Life’) when the
power cut off just as Jason (singer) was singing the last line. Luckily they
got the power back on and everyone had a good laugh and cheered. Jason finished
the last few words, that’s the spirit, finish what you started!
The night and good
vibes continued, Verses smashing out their new songs off their debut album and
the power cut again, this time during ‘Wait Forever’. Verses were obviously
rocking out a bit too hard for the system to handle!
Luckily they were
able to finish their set finishing off with clear fan favourite ‘If We Stay’.
This band are tight
as hell on stage and it’s clear they love playing live and appreciate the fans.
They were happy to speak to, take pictures with and signs things for the fans
at the end of the gig.
Pounding drum
beats, melodic guitar riffs and catchy choruses Verses surely know how to put
on a good gig and i’m sure it won’t be long before they’re playing bigger
venues and gaining more fans.
